ClaimEase
Insurance claims automation platform
Problem
Insurance claims processing involves documents that carry sensitive personal and financial data, handled by multiple internal services (intake, verification, routing). A single monolithic path for that data increases both the blast radius of a compromise and the difficulty of enforcing least-privilege access per step.
Architecture
A microservices platform behind a central API gateway, with OCR and NLP stages handling document verification as isolated services rather than inline logic in a single app. The gateway enforces access-controlled routing, so each downstream service only receives the data and permissions it needs for its step in the claim-processing pipeline.
Key decisions
- —API gateway as the single enforcement point for access control, instead of duplicating auth logic across services.
- —OCR and NLP document verification isolated as their own services — keeps the extraction/parsing surface (the part most exposed to malformed or adversarial input) separated from core claims logic.
- —Docker-based microservices, so each service can be scaled, patched, and access-scoped independently.
Still being written up
Case-study detail beyond this is still being written up — worth adding: specific threat model for the document-intake step, and what OCR/NLP input validation looks like in practice.
